While changing groups in the class for the month of November, each group had to chose a Francophone country to represent their group. A Francophone country has French as one of its official languages. Each group is currently doing research on a country to better understand its geographical, political, cultural, economic, and other factors that influence its identity and its issues. The students will later explore how various factors can cause conflict among peoples and governments. They will also compare their Francophone country to our own Francophone country, Canada.
The students had learnt that there are 29 countries that have French as one of its official languages. They had learnt that knowing the French language helps to open up doors for career opportunities in Canada, as well in other Francophone countries. Knowing French will also help with learning the Spanish language, if they wish to learn it in high school. Knowing more languages than just French and English is even more beneficial.
